If you enjoy working with team members whose defining characteristics are achievement, initiative, professionalism, responsiveness and adaptability, you may be the person we are seeking to join our very busy, highly regarded Real Estate department, in Chicago, as a Property Tax Paralegal.

 

  • Prepare and file appeals before the Cook County Assessor, Cook County Board of Review, Illinois Circuit Court and Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board
  • Manage the property tax database and appeal filing deadlines
  • Calculate assessments, market values, unit values and taxes
  • Read, comprehend and interpret County records, forms and data
  • Prepare client reporting materials, including design of multi-year tax and assessment summaries
  • Monitor multiple electronic and print sources for new regulations and laws that impact practice and clients

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Paralegal certificate from ABA approved paralegal program preferred
  • 1-3 years of law firm experience preferred
  • Solid computer skills; knowledge of MS Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint required
  • Strong math skills to calculate taxes, exemptions and refunds
  • Ability to analyze property tax record cards, legal descriptions and tax bills
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to work under deadline pressure and organize/prioritize work
  • Strong problem-solving skills and understand/follow written/oral instructions
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills required
  • Ability to lift or move up to 20 lbs
